The Project

The Black Desert Resort in Ivins, UT is a newly built 600-acre resort and luxury residences. The resort features a boardwalk that integrates expansion joint systems in a high-pedestrian-traffic environment. Nystrom and Select Specialties coordinated the procurement and installation of Seismic Pre-Compressed Horizontal Foam System (HES) and Aluminum Hinged Heavy-Duty System (PD) expansion joint assemblies, ensuring compliance with the project’s design and performance requirements. A key project component was conducting on-site field verification confirming actual joint opening dimensions prior to fabrication and installation. This process ensured proper system fitment and long-term performance under anticipated thermal movement and structural expansion/contraction conditions.
