The United States Penitentiary Leavenworth—an operational federal correctional facility—required secure, code‑compliant access doors for a specialized application within its medium‑security environment. Given the facility’s demanding operational conditions, the project called for a solution that could withstand heavy use while meeting rigorous federal security standards.

Project engineers needed a medium‑security access door equipped with detention hardware, but no commercially available model met the necessary security, durability or integration requirements for a federal corrections setting. Multiple manufacturers were consulted, but none could produce a solution that satisfied the project's performance criteria.
