Job Description

The Designer II position is responsible for assisting Engineers in the design of custom and configured products and it the primary person responsible for creating CAD related documentation used to define said products. This documentation will include production drawings, customer drawings, and any CAD models required to create these documents. Designer II’s will work closely with Engineers, from whom they will get most of their work direction, but will also be expected to work on some tasks and projects with limited supervision. They will also be required to work closely with production personnel to ensure manufacturability of designs as well as provide guidance during prototype builds. Designer II’s may also be required to assist in the building of prototype units as well as testing of these units. A solid understanding of drafting techniques and Engineering terminology is required along with a good mechanical aptitude. Candidates should also have the ability to perform basic to moderately complex mathematical calculations.

Essential Functions

  • Utilizes SolidWorks CAD software to create and maintain models and drawings of manufactured and purchased product
  • Works closely with Engeinner to provide design input for new products and product enhancements
  • Ability to take rough concepts and ideas as provided by an Engineer and determine the lower level details with very little guidance from the cognizant Engineer
  • Responsible for maintaining an organized file system for production and sales documentation per company's SOPs
  • Responsible for maintaining file integrity as it relates to accessing and storing files in PDM per compaany's SOPs
  • Provides support and mentorship to Drafters and less experienced Designers
  • Solicit feedback fromproduction personnel to ensure manufacturability of design
  • Provide non-drafting task support for prototype builds as required by Engineer

Job Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Design/Drafting
  • Three to five years Mechanical Design/Drafting experience
  • Two to four years experience using SolidWorks CAD software
  • Ability to perform tasks related to building of prototypes (i.e. using saws, drills, and other basic power tools)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic moderately complex mathematical calculations
